SHTF fire starting paper

The rope is comprised of 3 main groups of 12 twisted ropes of fibrous material. I cut about 3cm of one of the main group ropes. I split that in half for 2 different tests. In the first I untwisted all 12 twisted ropes and dropped them haphazardly in a pile and then showered the bundle with a ferro rod. After a few strikes the pile ignited nicely. In the second test I crisscrossed the untwisted ropes in a neat pile and showered the pile with a ferro rod, it was harder to get the pile started and the crisscrossing performed less well.
The 1/2 of 3 cm used in the tests did create a fire that lasted a minute or so and was hot enough to ignite dry tinder. I suspect if I had used all of it in one go and spread it out a bit it would've generated enough heat to easily get a fire going. Of course I am assuming you've gathered plenty of small dry tinder, twigs, kindling etc.

On several occasions I had a strong shower of sparks from my ferro rod that did not catch. Considering it's mostly a wax based fire starter it'll probably work equally well when damp though I didn't test it. I imagine if you have a USB rechargeable lighter like thepointbelow.com offers this would be a very easy way to get your twigs and kindling aflame. I would suggest a base layer of small twigs, then the splayed fat rope and more small twigs before the ferro rod and as soon as the fat rope catches kindling and then fire...
